Bug #760 Memory Leak fixed in 3.4 release candidate?

Added by Croyd Crenson over 1 year ago

I updated to the 3.4 release candidate (build #3.3.385) today and have been streaming a half SBS 1080p mkv file using ps3mediaserver to showtime on my PS3. I set ps3mediaserver to not transcode mkv files. Anyways, everything is working fine but after awhile, the ps3 starts to complain about low memory and will eventually stop. So far it has happened twice through the movie (NOTE: no fast forwarding in this case). The movie is about 7.5GB. I've also noticed if I switched between other mkv files and fast forward through them, I will also start seeing this low memory warning.

Scanning through the issues, I noticed Bug#760 refers to a memory issue that has been fixed and is targeted for the 3.4 release which I'm guessing means it's in the release candidate. Am I seeing this issue or some other memory issue. Or is this really a limitation of the ps3 due to the movie I'm streaming?

Thanks!
Croyd

I've seen this from time to time as well. I will try to troubleshoot a bit more.

Thanks. I just saw this again today. Looks like I can't make it through an mkv movie without Showtime stopping eventually due to insufficient memory. I have to restart showtime again. Luckily showtime has the resume movie feature ;-)

I watched on a non-SBS 3D mkv tonight and didn't notice any low memory warnings. I wonder if it occurs more often with Half SBS movies even though they are smaller in file size. Just in case it's important, I'm also displaying subtitles at the same time. The subtitles are embedded in the mkv file and they are in .SUP format and they are 3D subtitles made by the program 3DSubtitler.

Hope this helps in tracking down the issue.

I can definitely reproduce the memory leakage on some type of files.
There are small segments of memory left that seems to make it hard for the psl1ght memory allocator.
I'm closing in on the bug but have not found it just yet.

Any luck with the memory bugs? I seem to be hitting this more and more these days. I'm always running out of memory when watching the 1080 mkv files. Not all encodes do it. Any idea how I can identify which files may cause the memory issues?

Thanks,
Croyd

What version of Showtime are you using when you see memory leaks?

I've seen it on the stable 3.4 build and on the 3.5.122 build. I always seem to get low memory especially if I do any fast forwarding. Some videos I get it immediately. Note this only happens on my 1080 mkv files.

The latest test build seems to have solved all my memory issues which included fast forwarding through videos! Great fix.

I did notice some sound clicking which wasn't there before on these videos. I'm trying to figure out if there's a certain type of video or audio combination causing this.

Which version is that, Croyd?
I'm facing the same issue of memory leak.

I was using the 3.5.176 Test build. I noticed there's a newer test build up so try that: http://www.lonelycoder.com/showtime/download
