cannot connect to ubuntu smb shares

I am having difficulty connecting to the smb shares I have on my ubuntu 11.10 media center
I can connect to my shares with my windows pc's , Android phone etc without a password
No problem but Showtime will not connect.
I can stream with ps3mediaserver no probs but I would like to be able
Connect with smb
Any help suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Password protect your shares.
It's good network security practice.

Have you specified the address string correctly?

Mine are in format -> smb://(ip address)/folder
Keep in mind that folder names may be case sensitive.
Also keep in mind that showtime may not have server name resolution - others can verify that - so make sure your ubuntu server has a fixed IP address & use the IP address instead of the server name.
