Built-in version supports more than stand alone version (variety of supported languages subtitle)?
Added by Huy Pham quang about 1 year ago
Hi,
Today I had installed Multiman ver 4.0.20 and it has a built-in version of Showtime (3.5.43.gefb9f.dirty). Now what suprises me is this built-in Showtime beautifully supports my language subtitle (Vietnamese) while the latest stand alone one doesn't. So Why the stand alone version of Showtime did not support Vietnamese? And if you could make the next stand alone version do the same, then, that will be a huge convenience for me as well as many Vietnamese users
Sorry for my awkward English

dean that develops multiman has made a few changes to showtime that he includes with multiman...
here are a few quotes:
<@MaRINoL> [00:10] <[-dean-]> Version 3.3.063.g1b3c7.dirty (September 30th, 2011, 10:00EET) (disabled metadb to fix the black-screen issue)
[17:30] <[-dean-]> the usual changes are
[17:30] <[-dean-]> handle parsed files from multiman and initiate immediate playback
[17:31] <[-dean-]> open the folder where the file resides
[17:31] <[-dean-]> open XMB Video folder so you can access your ps3 videos without searching your hard drive
[17:31] <[-dean-]> showtime.ttf font is used and not the PS3 fonts
[17:31] <[-dean-]> return to multiMAN when you click the exit icon
and i think regarding to your issue it resides on the multiman font. dean includes a unicode arial font that covers most users needs
even tought i just need cp1252 LOL
anyway i think dean should help andoma... im pretty sure he has made some other change since those quotes i got from irc months ago

"unicode arial font" is (c) Microsoft with a proprietary license. I don't want to include that

so looks like we have to find some free multilingual unicode truetype fonts... to cover "Arial Unicode MS" :-)
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=1081
maybe there is a linux distro with great fonts out? ive heard about linux minth having an awesome font!
for my side i can't wait for showtime to support opentype because taz is the best font for subtitles in my opinion http://www.lucasfonts.com/fonts/taz/

So it is technically possible to include Unicode Arial fonts but u do not want to do so because of potential threats from MS. If yes, then it explains alot. But i think there is always another way

Yep, you could support it, but not distribute the font and let the user copy the font from windows themselves, that's perfectly legal..

That's the plan.
