i think that this is more flexible. in the future if tvheadend would support different channels available for different users this woul be necesary.

Uh, from a conceptual point of view there is no difference.
A tag is a list of channels.
It's not really presented this way in the UI. (It could very well be though)

yep you are right. although light improvement would be nice. currently after mapping channels they have tags such as hdtv sdtv etc. can it be visable in tags ? when someone will like to rename he wouldn't have to edit channel by channel.
