hi
some shows for example on hbo are repeated on hbo2 hbo hd etc. premiere is at 20:00 and it is repeated at 02:30.
most people sleep at those times so recording will not interfeare with watching tv.

question rises here what to do if a show is repeated day after or even 2 dys after.

Rejecting this, not because its not a good idea. But improvements to the DVR code (which I hope to add in the near future, some of which already exist).
Better DVR will include better missed recording re-scheduling and potentially more flexible control of how it selects what/when to record.
