Subtitles¶

Subtitles are not correctly shown?¶

This could me a number of issues.

• Incorrect character encoding. Starting with 2.99-275 Showtime will try to autodetect encoding of SRT files. If it fails to validate the file as correct UTF-8 it will decode the file as configured under the "Languages -> SRT character set" settings.

• A font with the required glyphs is not available. See FAQ about font handling.

External subtitles (SRT files) does not work when playing from UPNP/DLNA¶

This only works with some DLNA servers. MiniDLNA and Twonky both have some extra support for handling SRT files.

What font is Showtime using on Linux?¶

Liberation Sans is shipped with Showtime.

What font is Showtime using on OS X?¶

Liberation Sans is shipped with Showtime.

What font is Showtime using on the PS3?¶

Prior to 2.99-273 Showtime used a built-in font. After 2.99-273 Showtime loads system fonts available on the PS3. Those should include many more glyphs (Latin, Korean, Japanese, Chinese) than previously.

Audio output¶

I'm using Showtime (newer than 3.1.277) and playing a file with 5.1 AC-3 soundtrack but my receiver says it's DTS¶

Right, As far as I can tell the PS3 audio system does not allow applications to output raw bitstreams. (If you know how to do this, please let me know). Therefore Showtime will decode multichannel (ie. more than 2 channels) audio and the PS3 audio mixer will output it in the best available format possible based on the audio settings (from XMB). If 8 channel Linear PCM is available (which it only is over HDMI), that will be preferred. Then come DTS, then AC-3 and if none of those are available Showtime will output 2 channel output Pro-logic mixed.
